Seasons on Padre

There is a great schedule of events on South Padre Island. Be sure to plan your visit to get the island experience you are looking for.

Summer
The summer time is the busiest season on South Padre. The weather and waves are warm with salt air breezes coming off the gulf. It is the prime time for big game gulf fishing and watersports. Every Friday night from Memorial Day to Labor day the island has a brilliant fireworks display over the bay. Best viewing points include any bayfront restaurant or bar but, the fireworks can be seen from many high balconies all over the island. Holiday weekends are sure to fill up quick. So be sure to make your Labor Day, 4th of July, or Memorial Day reservations early.

Fall
Some of the finest tropical weather happens from late Sept - Nov. This is also a relatively quiet time to visit. Expect 70 to 80 degree days and mild evenings. Our fall beaches are perfect for long walks and bayside locations great for sunset watching. Have it all for off-peak rates. Fall events include SPI Bikefest, Sandcastle Days, SPLASH, the World Champion Shrimp Cookoff and a number of athletic events.

Winter
Many folks from cold weather climates spent several months on SPI. Winter Texans usually book far in advance to secure their favorite condos and houses so be sure to reserve early. Events this time of year include the residents fabulous Christmas Parade, the lighting of the island, Lighted Boat Parade, Taste of the Island, Market Days and New Years fireworks. Prices on the island are great and the weather is usually excellent for outdoor activities. But, a jacket or sweatshirt may be necessary for evenings or windy days.

Spring
Most people know that South Padre is a famous Spring Break destination. The month of March is generally dedicated to students enjoying their holiday. Texas week is the biggest and busiest part of Spring Break. heavy traffic and higher rates should be expected. However, families and couples are welcome and find that many condo buildings only allow older guests during this time. April and May are excellent times to visit. The weather is mild and pleasant, there are wonderful places available to stay and the beach and bay warm enough for most water sports.
