About South Padre Island
Located on the tropical tip of Texas, South Padre Island is a small seaside community with abundant charm and character. Less than 1 mile wide, the island can be enjoyed on foot from beach to bay. Our pristine beach extends for miles and is a wonderful place to spend the day at play in our warm waters and wide shores.
The beach is easy to for all to enjoy. Every other block has a clearly marked public beach access.
The island has a large amount of park space. Visitors can enjoy Isla Blanca Park to the south of the causeway. Isla Blanca is home to the jetties which keep the ships channel open and the breakers perfect for surfers. Isla Blanca is great for fishing, or play and has public facilities.
Andy Bowie park is located north of the convention center. It provides beach access to vehicles and bay access for windsurfers, kayaks, or kite boarders.
Here the Gulf of Mexico is tropical in nature with blue / green waters suitable for swimming nearly year round. The other side of the island lies along the Laguna Madre Bay. This shallow, salty body of water is home to a magnificent array of birds, fish, dolphin and sea turtles. Sunsets are stunning when reflected on the waters of our broad bay.
Our climate is very agreeable. Summers are warm and sunny with salty sea breezes. Spring and Fall are some of the finest seasons for excellent weather. Winters may be chilly in the evenings and we do experience occasional wind. But, in general, average winter temperatures are comfortable.
